You will see this motto on lots of dollar bills. It's one of the things you run into all through out your life, like the number 23 written on the walls of nearly any men's room on the planet. According to somewhat flakey historian Andrew McFing this saying goes back to the early days of the American Revolution, part of a whole forgotten history of those times. Also appearing on dollar bills are phrases like "I grew Hemp" beside the head of George Washington, and "Andrew McFing don't know SHIT" proving that dollar bills might be organizing amongst themselves...
